India’s T20 World Cup Team based on IPL performance

Now that all the league matches are over, it is time to check whether the Indian Team that has been selected for the T20 World Cup is performance based, or rather purely based on the past laurels.

Last time I chose my team based on the total number of runs scored, and wickets taken as my criteria. This time I am changing the criteria and using the Cricinfo’s Fantasy Cricket Stats (sorting it based on total points). And this time I am choosing a team of 15 that comprises of 5 batsmen, 3 all-rounders, 1 wicket keeper, and 6 bowlers (like the Indian Team already chosen for the T20 World Cup).

Team
Batsmen
Suresh Raina
Rohit Sharma
Sachin Tendulkar
Yuvraj Singh
TS Suman

All-rounders
Yusuf Pathan
Irfan Pathan
RA Jadeja

Wicket keeper
Dinesh Karthik !!!

Bowlers
Anil Kumble
Ashish Nehra
RP Singh
Harbhajan Singh
Pragyan Ojha
P Sangwan

There are two names here that anyway would not have been in the team – SRT & Kumble. Replacing them would be:
SRT – Virat Kohli
Anil Kumble – Praveen Kumar

There are some major surprises here, none bigger than: No MS Dhoni! The captain of the team is out. Karthik has been keeping better, and scoring at par with Dhoni at least in this format. Also no Gautam Gambhir, no Virender Sehwag, no Zaheer, no Ishant Sharma. Well at least for Sehwag and Zaheer, I can at least say that they did not play many matches, but Gambhir?

Anyway I do not have any problem with the team chosen for T20 World Cup, although I seriously wish that Nehra was going rather than Munaf Patel – this guy never seems to be giving his 100% (to use an oft-used cliche).

Wishing that this T20 brouhaha finishes soon, so that we can get back to the serious business of the Ashes, and the French Open, and the Wimbledon! 🙂

Karthik is just 8 points ahead of Dhoni! Moreover, Dhoni didnt keep the wickets all the time for CSK. So that gives Karthik an unfair advantage as his lead is just one catch/stumping ahead of Dhoni.

    so I protest 😀

I agree with the point on Nehra. I guess Dhoni will never pick him though.

Rohith, I have to agree that there is a minuscule difference between the two. But, I just picked the team based on top points 🙂 And yeah in this team we would not miss the cool captaincy of Dhoni, I’d make Kumble the captain 🙂

Karan, even I feel Nehra’s career is over 😦

I completely agree with the last line, let’s get it over with. I do not follow IPL, and I don’t think T20 is cricket. Some people argue that it’s the future, and there may be some truth in it; but it’s still not cricket. I would be fractionally more interested in the T20 World Cup because ‘India’ will be playing. The French Open and Wimbledon will keep me interested over the next month; but after that, I wish we get back to some good old fashioned Test Cricket!

I’ve a wild idea – why not make Kohli the Captain? He has led the U19 team before…so will be good to ‘groom’ some future captains. 😛

Ashes and Wimbledon are eagerly-awaited but French Open’s kinda dull (IMHO)…NBA playoffs, anyone?

Bhai, India does not have any Test Matches for a long time now 😦 India is visiting WI in June, but just for ODIs. Anyway I think Ashes would be evenly matched this year, so waiting for that 🙂

Chittaranjan, Dhoni would have an apoplectic fit if he reads that you are already planning to sack him 😛
as for the French Open, it would be interesting because Federed defeated Nadal recently on clay court – that is the sole reason it may get interesting, else Nadal is a clear cut winner 🙂

What the hell was jadeja doing he is the one who is responsible for the India’s this situation. he is really a disaster… and also the great mistake the captain Dhoni done ever….
